From The Superintendent

Welcome to the Coffeyville USD #445 website. We want you to experience our district to the fullest extent by providing quality information that is focused on our students.

Over the past decade the Coffeyville School District, along with many other school districts across the United States, has raised standards and expectations for student achievement. To support the implementation of these higher academic standards, significant investment has been made in staff professional development, new instructional materials, high school, middle school, and elementary school restructuring (Literacy First Process), and other steps to create more effective environments for teaching and learning. Much progress is evident. Yet a significant gap continues to exist between those who are succeeding academically and those who are not in our schools.

To close this gap, the Coffeyville School District and Community through the Strategic Plan believes that there must be a collaborative, community-wide effort to ensure that all students are provided full opportunity for success in our schools. The focus of stakeholders—students, families, school staff, civic and religious organizations, community agencies, businesses and other school partners—is important when it comes to the education of our youth.

As our community continues to recovers from the devastation that occurred in 2007, the schools in this district need to continue its efforts directed towards students and families. We must continue to provide our staff with professional development that supports teachers to adopt proven instructional methods that reach all students, including low-performing, with challenging and rich curriculum relevant to students’ lives. Our district must provide support for failing students. We will utilize targeted state, federal and other resources to provide extra academic support to students as soon as they are identified as falling behind academically which may include in the near future an individualized student intervention plan. The last area for our district is to support students beyond the classroom. We will continue to expand partnerships and collaborations with after-school programs like the Boys and Girls Club, human service agencies and other service providers who can provide individualized academic and social supports to students in need..

The evidence shows that the Coffeyville School District is doing many things right and is on the path that will continue to narrow the achievement gap substantially over the next two years. In many ways the greatest challenge will be to stay the course and continue to aggressively seek knowledge where the pay-off is evident. This is a great community with many caring individuals and when we work together we will make a difference.
